Titus 1:1-3 NIV “Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness— in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,”

Paul affirms his apostleship and divinely appointed role: to further/help/assist/advance 1. the faith of God’s elect and 2. their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness. The end/hope of this is eternal life which God promised before time began and now has revealed at the appointed time through the preaching of Paul; preaching entrusted to him by the command of God.

We must look and treasure Paul’s ministry to us, as it is chiefly through his epistles, as a gift from God for the helping and furthering of our faith and knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness. We ought to commit ourselves to studying what he taught, believing it and practicing it seeing that he received this ministry of preaching as a command from God and not from men. And we should pray and seek diligently to apprehend this knowledge of the truth that helps us to live godly lives.

Commit therefore to study and understand the Gospel as Paul elaborates it in his epistles, and to follow the example of Christian living that he sets himself and that he exhorts us towards. With God’s help and grace.
